When Science Becomes Scripture: Reclaiming the Art of Coaching from Scientism

Today we’re unmasking a quiet but profound threat to coaching—a threat that looks like progress but acts like dogma. We’re talking about Science vs. Scientism.
Science is one of human history’s greatest tools. It gives us the long jump, the MRI, satellites, and life-saving vaccines. But somewhere along the way, a subset of coaches in our world lost their grip on the definition of science. They didn’t just start using it, they started worshipping it. Science is a compass. Scientism is a compass worshipped as a god.
Coaching doesn’t need a hierarchy of proof. It needs a horizon of purpose. Your value doesn’t come from throwing research at clients.
It comes from leading them. Seeing them. Holding them accountable.
